My name is Sarah Briggs (or Sarah Fairy), and I specialize in oil painting.
I graduated with a degree in Biology in 2015, and moved to the Netherlands in 2018. With my combined love of art and nature, I create works that showcase the hidden beauty (and sometimes humor) in the world around us, particularly when it comes to living things.
Most of my current work is in oil, but I also have extensive experience in drawing, graphic design/digital art, crafting, and jewelry-making.
As a neurodivergent artist, my paintings are heavily inspired by daydreams, seclusion, and the small hidden worlds that most people don’t notice. I believe that all people contain a world within themselves, and that it can still be accessed – even when they’ve had to push it down or hide it away from the demands of the “real world”. My art seeks to pull the viewer back into that colorful whimsy and show them that it will always be there, waiting for them.
I would define my work as magical realism, which is achieved through saturated color and unusual subject matter combinations. There is an intensity that shines through the softness, a bittersweet comfort that can leave you feeling wistful for a distant memory or laughing at an unusual image that comes with no ready explanation.
It is reality filtered through my mind, allowing others to experience how I interpret the often overlooked and quiet aspects of our world. This process of creation gives my imagination a physical presence and power that is often limited through the use of words alone.
Please feel free to join me on this strange journey!
